The International Institute of Mechanical Engineering ("IIME") is committed to ensuring that its website, learning resources and certification services are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe that every qualified professional should have a fair opportunity to learn, be assessed and be certified.
1. Our Accessibility Goal
We aim for ii-me.us and cert.ii-me.us to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning and neurological disabilities. We also strive to meet our obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other applicable accessibility laws.
2. Measures We Take
- We consider accessibility when designing and developing new pages and features.
- We use semantic headings, descriptive link text and text alternatives for meaningful images.
- We aim to provide sufficient color contrast and avoid conveying information by color alone.
- We support keyboard navigation and visible focus indicators.
- We design layouts that adapt to different screen sizes and allow text resizing.
- We provide content in English and Arabic, with right-to-left layout support for Arabic.
- We review the website periodically and address issues identified through testing and user feedback.
3. Current Status and Known Limitations
We consider our website to be partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA, meaning that some content may not yet fully conform. Known areas we are working to improve include:
- older PDF documents and course brochures that may not be fully tagged for screen readers;
- some embedded third-party content, such as videos and payment pages, which is outside our direct control; and
- certain complex data tables in user dashboards.
If you need information from any of these sources in an alternative format, please contact us and we will provide it promptly.
4. Reasonable Adjustments for Courses and Examinations
IIME provides reasonable adjustments to candidates with disabilities, medical conditions or other specific needs, provided the adjustment does not compromise the validity of the assessment or the competence standard being certified. Examples include:
- additional time for written examinations;
- rest breaks;
- accessible seating or an accessible examination room;
- enlarged print or screen-reader-compatible examination formats;
- a reader or scribe, where appropriate; and
- a separate room to reduce distractions.
How to Request an Adjustment
- Submit your request at least 21 calendar days before your course or examination date, so that arrangements can be made.
- Describe the adjustment you are requesting and provide supporting documentation from an appropriate professional, where available.
- IIME will review the request confidentially and confirm the agreed arrangements in writing, coordinating with the training center where applicable.
Information about disabilities or medical conditions is used only to arrange adjustments and is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. A candidate's certificate never indicates that an adjustment was provided.
Some competence standards, such as visual acuity requirements for certain inspection and NDT schemes, are inherent to safe practice. Where a requested adjustment cannot be granted for this reason, we will explain the decision and explore any alternatives.
5. Accredited Training Centers
Accredited training centers are expected to make reasonable efforts to provide accessible facilities and to implement adjustments approved by IIME. Concerns about a center's accessibility may be raised directly with IIME.
6. Feedback and Contact
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of our website and services. If you encounter a barrier, please reach us using the contact details published on our Contact page, describing the page or service concerned and the problem you experienced. We aim to respond within five business days.
7. Formal Complaints
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may submit a formal complaint under our Appeals & Complaints Policy.
8. Review of This Statement
This statement is reviewed at least annually and updated as improvements are made. The "Last updated" date above indicates when it was last revised.
