Frequently asked questions

The International Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IIME) is a US-based institute dedicated to engineering training and personnel certification across the mechanical disciplines. We design professional courses, administer examinations and issue certificates that confirm an individual's demonstrated competence.

Our programs are delivered directly by IIME and through accredited training centers worldwide, and every certificate we issue can be verified online.

IIME programs span the full range of mechanical engineering practice. Each discipline offers courses and, where applicable, certification schemes, including:

Inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT)

Maintenance and reliability

Welding and piping

Corrosion and protective coatings

Health, safety and environment (HSE)

Oil and gas operations

Engineering design and CAD

Our programs serve engineers, technicians, inspectors, supervisors and managers who wish to build or formally demonstrate their competence. They are also suitable for graduates entering industry and for employers seeking an objective way to verify the skills of their workforce. Each course page lists its intended audience and any prerequisites.

IIME certificates are issued by a US-based institute and can be verified online by anyone, anywhere, through our verification service. Our certification process is aligned with the principles of ISO/IEC 17024 for bodies certifying persons.

Acceptance of any certificate is ultimately decided by each employer, client or regulator, so we recommend confirming specific requirements with the organization concerned.

The IIME website is available in English and Arabic, with full right-to-left layout support for Arabic. You can switch languages at any time using the language selector. The language of instruction and examination for each course is stated on the course page and may vary by training center.

You can reach our team using the contact details published on our Contact page. To help us respond quickly, please include your full name, account email and, where relevant, your certificate number, order number or the name of your training center. We aim to acknowledge all inquiries within five business days.

We collect only the information needed to deliver training and certification, protect it with administrative and technical safeguards, and never sell it. Residents of California and of the EEA and UK have specific privacy rights. Full details are available in our Privacy Policy and Data Retention & Records Policy.

Browse our course catalog, select the course and session that suit you, and complete enrollment online. You will need to create an account or sign in. Alternatively, you may enroll through an IIME-accredited training center near you, which will register you in our system.

You will receive an enrollment confirmation by email once your registration and payment are complete.

Some courses are open to all, while others require specific education, work experience or a prior IIME certificate. Prerequisites are listed on each course page. For certification schemes, additional eligibility requirements may apply, as described in our Certification Policy. If you are unsure whether you qualify, please contact us before enrolling.

Depending on the course, IIME offers classroom training at accredited training centers, live instructor-led online sessions, and self-paced online learning. Courses with a practical component, such as welding or NDT, include hands-on sessions at an approved facility. The available formats and schedule are shown on each course page.

Yes. You may transfer to a later session of the same course once per enrollment, subject to availability, and the transfer must be used within twelve months of the original start date. Transfer fees may apply depending on how close to the start date you request it. See our Refund & Cancellation Policy for details.

Where your employer has paid for the enrollment, a substitute candidate who meets the course prerequisites may attend in your place at no additional charge, provided we are notified before the course begins. The substitute will need their own IIME account so that attendance and results are recorded correctly.

No. Completing a course prepares you for assessment, but certification is awarded only when you meet all requirements of the relevant scheme, including passing the examination and satisfying any eligibility criteria. This separation between training and certification protects the impartiality and credibility of every IIME certificate.

Yes. IIME welcomes corporate and group enrollments, and many courses can be delivered as dedicated sessions for a single organization through IIME or an accredited training center. Please reach us using the contact details published on our Contact page with the course of interest, number of participants and preferred dates.

Visit cert.ii-me.us and enter the certificate number or verification code, or scan the QR code printed on the certificate. The result shows the holder's name, certification title, status and validity dates. Employers should always rely on the online result rather than a paper or electronic copy alone.

Unless a specific scheme states otherwise, IIME certificates are valid for three years from the date of issue. The expiry date is printed on the certificate and displayed on the verification service. To remain certified, you must complete recertification before the expiry date.

Apply for recertification before your certificate expires. Depending on the scheme, you may need to provide evidence of continued professional activity, complete continuing professional development or refresher training, and pass a recertification examination. The applicable fee must also be paid. If your certificate expires before renewal, you may need to repeat the full certification process.

A suspended certificate is temporarily invalid, for example while an investigation is in progress or until requirements are met; the holder must not claim certification during that time. A withdrawn certificate has been permanently cancelled. Both statuses are displayed on the verification service. Decisions may be appealed under our Appeals & Complaints Policy.

Once your certification is approved, a certificate is issued bearing your name, certification title, scope, issue and expiry dates, a unique certificate number and a QR code linked to the verification service. Your certificate details are also available in your IIME account. Delivery arrangements for printed certificates may vary by training center.

If your certificate contains an error in your name or other details, contact us promptly with supporting identification so that we can correct the record and reissue the certificate. If you lose your certificate, you may request a replacement; a replacement fee may apply. Your certificate remains verifiable online regardless.

Certificate holders may refer to their certification and use the IIME certification mark only while the certificate is valid, only within its certified scope, and never in a way that suggests IIME certifies an organization, product or service. Altering or misrepresenting a certificate is prohibited. Full rules are in our Certification Policy.

You must bring a valid, original, government-issued photo identification document whose name matches your booking. Bring only the materials expressly permitted for your examination, such as an approved calculator or authorized reference documents for open-book examinations. Mobile phones, smart watches and other electronic devices are not allowed in the examination room.

Pass marks are set for each scheme through a documented standard-setting process that reflects the competence required for safe and effective practice. The applicable pass mark is published to candidates before the examination. Where a scheme has several components, such as written and practical examinations, you must meet the required standard in each component.

You may re-sit the examination in accordance with the re-examination rules of the relevant scheme. These may include a waiting period and a limit on the number of attempts within a given period. A re-examination fee applies to each additional attempt. Your training center or our team can advise you on available dates.

Some IIME examinations may be taken online with remote proctoring. You will need a private, quiet room, a working webcam and microphone, and a stable internet connection, and you must close all other applications. Sessions may be recorded to protect examination integrity. Examinations with a practical component must be taken in person at an approved facility.

Yes. IIME provides reasonable adjustments such as additional time, rest breaks, accessible rooms or alternative formats, provided they do not compromise the competence standard being assessed. Please submit your request at least 21 calendar days before your examination, with supporting documentation where available. See our Accessibility Statement for details.

You may submit a written appeal within 30 calendar days of receiving your result, explaining your grounds and including any supporting evidence. Appeals may request a re-mark and are reviewed by people who were not involved in the original decision. An appeal fee may apply and is refunded if the appeal is upheld. See our Appeals & Complaints Policy.

Examination misconduct, such as using unauthorized materials, impersonation or sharing examination content, is investigated fairly, and the candidate is given an opportunity to respond. Confirmed misconduct may lead to invalidation of the result without refund, withdrawal of existing certificates and a ban from future examinations. Full details are in our Examination Integrity & Anti-Fraud Policy.

Online payments are accepted through trusted third-party payment processors, which may include major credit and debit cards and other methods shown at checkout. Offline options such as bank transfer may also be available for certain orders. Your card and bank details are entered directly with the payment processor and are not stored on IIME servers.

Yes. An invoice is generated for every completed order and is available in your account. If your employer requires specific company details on the invoice, please enter them during checkout or contact us before payment so that the invoice can be issued correctly.

Refunds depend on when you cancel before the course start date:

30 or more days: full refund, less non-refundable processing charges

15 to 29 days: 75% refund or a full-value transfer

7 to 14 days: 50% refund or a transfer, subject to a fee

Fewer than 7 days: no refund

See our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Examination fees are refundable in full if you cancel at least 14 calendar days before the examination date, and you may reschedule once without charge if you request it at least 7 days in advance. Fees are non-refundable once an examination has started, and they are not refunded to candidates disqualified for misconduct.

Candidates who do not attend without notifying us before the start time are treated as no-shows and are not entitled to a refund or transfer. In exceptional, documented circumstances, such as a medical emergency or travel disruption beyond your control, you may request consideration within seven days, and we will review your request in good faith.

We acknowledge refund requests within five business days. Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method within ten business days of approval, and your bank or card issuer may take a further five to ten business days to display the funds. Refunds are made in the original currency of payment.

If IIME cancels or reschedules a course or examination, you may choose either a full refund of the fees paid for that session or a transfer to an alternative session at no extra cost. IIME is not responsible for travel or accommodation costs, so we recommend booking refundable travel arrangements.

An accredited training center is an independent organization that IIME has assessed and approved to deliver specific IIME courses and, where applicable, host examinations. Centers must meet requirements for qualified instructors, suitable facilities and sound management systems, and they are monitored through regular audits.

IIME may publish a list of accredited training centers and their approved course scope on our website. If you cannot find a center or want to confirm its status before enrolling, please reach us using the contact details published on our Contact page. Accredited centers cannot guarantee certification, so treat any such promise with caution.

Submit an application with evidence of legal registration, instructor qualifications and a description of your facilities. IIME then reviews your documents, conducts an on-site or remote assessment, and makes an accreditation decision through personnel independent of the assessment. Approved centers sign an accreditation agreement defining their courses, locations and obligations.

Centers must:

Be a legally registered organization in good standing

Employ IIME-approved instructors with relevant qualifications and experience

Provide safe, suitable facilities and equipment

Maintain secure records and examination handling procedures

Comply with IIME's ethics, impartiality and examination integrity policies

Accreditation is typically valid for three years, subject to satisfactory surveillance audits during that period. Centers must apply for renewal before expiry, and renewal includes a reassessment of continued conformity. IIME may also conduct unannounced visits at any time to confirm that standards are being maintained.

Yes. IIME may suspend or withdraw accreditation if a center fails to meet requirements, breaches examination integrity, misuses IIME marks or fails to pay fees. A suspended center cannot enroll new candidates. If accreditation is withdrawn, IIME takes reasonable steps to protect enrolled candidates, including transfers to another center. Decisions may be appealed.

Accredited centers use the IIME center portal to register trainees, record attendance and results, submit certificate requests for candidates who have met all requirements, and manage billing. This ensures that candidate records are accurate and that every certificate issued is linked to the verification service.
