Steam boilers combine high-temperature combustion with large volumes of pressurized water and steam, and their safe, efficient operation depends on informed operators and disciplined maintenance. This course provides a thorough grounding in boiler principles, covering combustion and heat transfer, steam generation, boiler types, efficiency, and the control and protection systems that prevent low-water, overpressure, and furnace explosion incidents. Participants develop routine maintenance and troubleshooting skills, learn the fundamentals of feedwater and boiler water treatment, and understand the inspection and code requirements that apply to fired equipment.
Who Should Attend
- Boiler operators and utility plant technicians
- Maintenance technicians responsible for boilers and steam systems
- Plant and facilities engineers
- Energy managers seeking to improve boiler efficiency
Learning Outcomes
- Explain the combustion process and modes of heat transfer in a boiler
